Double Glazing Knowledge

Certass (Company No. 04350234)

Certass is a competent persons scheme, it was established when the government requested the industry “self certify” that the windows and doors are installed in accordance with the building regulations. Certass was incorporated on 9th January 2002 and approval was made on 9th March 2006.

Although being less well known than other competent person’s scheme, they do still provide the same service, ie they provide a vehicle for installers of doors and windows to register those installations have been made correctly, in accordance with the building regulations.

Again it is always worth checking that an installer is indeed a member, but for added peace of mind, ask if the intended company are associated with other organisations, trade associations or protection bodies like an ombudsman.

Many companies will claim to be Certass registered, lot’s aren’t, ask for their Certass certificate number and verify them or www.certass.co.uk to confirm for yourself.

Ask if the installer is also a member of other trade bodies, like the Glass and Glazing Federation, the British Plastic Association, British Woodworking Association, an ombudsman scheme, or if they belong to a national network that provide additional protection.
